The Fortress

The Fortress of the Immaculate Conception is the mostsignificant of the town, the only strength of the time, built in 1675, is itself ahistorical value and a tourist atractivito. Fortress was built to resist the piratesand privateers who raided more than once from the Caribbean coast of Nicaragua to the city of Granada. For its historical value beyond the limits ofthe region, having been declared World Heritage by decree number 527,Gazette No.78 of 23 August 1990. Offers an interpretation center containinghistorical data and objects that were used during the eighteenth century defensive system. Moreover, it is the public library with extensive general bibliography. (From Central Museums Site)
