Option 1: SAN CARLOS – EL CASTILLO

Departure by boat to El Castillo, which is only 50 kilometers far away from San Carlos, the provincial capital of the department of Rio San Juan. We go into a magical world filled with colorful birds, wildlife and amazing forests.

Suddenly the hue of the landscape is broken by the astonishing figure of silent watch: The Fortres of the Immaculate Conception.

Arrival, lunch and city tour culminating with the visit of the fortress. During the colonial period the pirates were raiding Spanish ships and the city of Granada so Spain required to build the fortress which construction was completed in 1675. However, attacks by pirates and the British to achieve the supremacy of the San Juan River did not stop.

We learned about 1762 and the heroism of the young Rafaela Herrera and also 1780 about the young British Captain Horace Nelson attacking strength and winning after days of battle. Accommodation and dinner at El Castillo. Free time to hire one of the optional excursions such as boat trips to the mouth of the Juana, kayak, horseback ride to visit the agro-ecological farms.

Option 2: EL CASTILLO – SANTA CRUZ RIVER – BOCA DE SABALO

Breakfast at the hotel and departure by boat to Santa Cruz River in Bocade Sabalo, county seat of El Castillo.

Upon arrival we start the mountain bike ride to the communities where is located the plant African Palm plantation (Santa Cruz), admiring the almost primal state of this area.

The visit of the African palm plantationdone, we continue cycling to the community of El Vivero. There we take the time to share with the people, have lunch, visit the workshops of beautiful woodwork. Return to El Castillo with partial travel route along the Rio Santa Cruz. Accommodation and dinner at the hotel. Evening excursion alligators. Dinner and overnight.
